Verbeterde taakbalk
  Verbeterde taakbalk en voorbeelden op volledig scherm:
U gebruikt de taakbalk onderin uw scherm om programma's te starten en tussen open programma's te wisselen. In Windows 7 kunt u een programma aan de taakbalk vastmaken, zodat u er altijd gemakkelijk bij kunt. Daarnaast kunt u de afbeeldingen op de taakbalk verplaatsen door ze te verslepen. Ook hebben we de afbeeldingen aanzienlijk groter gemaakt, zodat ze gemakkelijker te gebruiken zijn. Houd uw cursor boven een afbeelding voor een miniatuurweergave van alle bestanden en vensters die in dat programma open staan. Als u uw cursor boven de miniatuurweergave houdt, kunt u het venster op uw volledige scherm bekijken. Als u de cursor niet meer boven de miniatuurweergave houdt, wordt de volledige weergave niet meer weergegeven.

Jump Lists
  De Jump List-functie:
Dit is een handige manier om gemakkelijk bij de bestanden te kunnen waarmee u hebt gewerkt. Klik eenvoudig op de afbeelding op uw taakbalk om de bestanden te bekijken die u recentelijk hebt gebruikt. Dus als u met de rechtermuisknop op de Word-afbeelding klikt, worden uw meest recente Word-documenten weergegeven. U kunt ook andere bestanden bij de hand houden door ze toe te voegen aan de Jump List, zodat ze altijd worden weergegeven.
Voor sommige programma's kan de Jump List vooraf al worden ingevuld met veelvoorkomende taken. In de Jump List voor Windows Media Player wordt bijvoorbeeld een optie weergegeven om alle muziek af te spelen of verder te gaan met uw vorige afspeellijst. In de Jump List voor Internet Explorer vindt u vaakbezochte websites en websites die u recentelijk hebt bezocht.

Verbeteringen van het Bureaublad
  Met Windows 7 kunt u gemakkelijker doen wat u altijd doet. Het is nu bijvoorbeeld gemakkelijker dan ooit om twee open vensters te vergelijken met Snaps. U hoeft het formaat van de openstaande vensters niet meer handmatig aan te passen-sleep eenvoudig een venster naar een van de buitenzijden van het scherm om het halve scherm te vullen. Als u aan allebei de zijden een venster plaatst, kunt u deze vensters gemakkelijker dan ooit vergelijken.
Als u alle gadgets op uw bureaublad wilt bekijken, plaatst u uw cursor in de rechterbenedenhoek van uw bureaublad. Als u dit doet, worden alle openstaande vensters transparant, waardoor uw bureaublad en alle gadgets die er op staan direct zichtbaar worden. Wilt u alle vensters sluiten, behalve één? Neem de bovenzijde van dat venster en schud het. Alle andere openstaande vensters worden geminimaliseerd op de taakbalk. Schud het venster nogmaals en alle vensters worden weer weergegeven.

Windows Search
  Zoekt u iets op uw pc? Wat zegt uw instinct? Als u het internet veel gebruikt, zoekt u waarschijnlijk direct naar een zoekvak. Nu kunt u dingen op uw computer op dezelfde manier vinden. Bij Windows Vista hebben we Windows Search geïntroduceerd, waarmee u vrijwel alles op uw pc snel en gemakkelijk kunt vinden. Met Windows 7 zijn uw zoekresultaten relevanter en gemakkelijker te begrijpen.
Zoekt u een bestand, e-mail of toepassing? Hoewel u mappen en menu's eenvoudig kunt doorkijken, is er een snellere manier. Klik op de knop Start en onderaan het menu Start wordt een zoekvak weergegeven. Geef een woord op of een paar letters op van de naam of het bestand dat u zoekt en een georganiseerde lijst resultaten wordt weergegeven.
Windows 7 maakt gebruik van bibliotheken om alle inhoud van een bepaald soort op één plek weer te geven. U hebt bijvoorbeeld foto's op verschillende plaatsen op uw pc. Met uw fotobibliotheek kunt u eenvoudig door uw foto's bladeren en ze gebruiken.

Beter apparaatbeheer
  Een van de mooie dingen van pc's is dat we zo veel verschillende apparaten kunnen gebruiken. In het verleden had u verschillende schermen nodig om verschillende soorten apparaten te beheren. Maar met Windows 7 gebruikt u een enkel Apparaten en printers-scherm om printers, telefoons en andere apparaten die u bij de hand hebt te verbinden, beheren en gebruiken.

HomeGroup
  Met HomeGroup, een nieuwe functie in Windows 7, kunt u de computers bij u thuis eenvoudig verbinden. HomeGroup wordt automatisch ingesteld wanneer u de eerste pc met Windows 7 toevoegt aan uw thuisnetwerk. U kunt eenvoudig meer pc's met Windows 7 toevoegen aan de HomeGroup. U kunt precies opgeven wat u van elke pc wilt delen met alle pc's in de HomeGroup.

View Available Network (VAN)
  Met Windows 7 kunt u uw eenvoudig en consistent verbinding maken met al uw netwerken en deze bekijken. U bent altijd slechts één muisklik verwijderd van beschikbare netwerken, waarbij het niet uitmaakt of dit een wifi-, mobiel breedband-, inbelverbinding of uw zakelijke VPN-verbinding is.

Browser keuze
  Tijdens de installatie is het mogelijk om zelf een Browser te selecteren en te instaleren.
Buiten IE8, zit hier o.a. ook FireFox, Safari en Opera, bij inbegrepen.

Windows XP Mode
  Werk met 'oude' XP Software in een virtuele omgeving. (Deze functie vereist aparte downloads)

    By acquiring software licenses through Microsoft Volume Licensing programs, you only pay for the software license. Boxed software, on the other hand, includes media (the CD-ROM or DVD), a user's guide and other packaging items. Eliminating these physical costs and purchasing in volume often reduces cost and provides more customized purchasing options and improved software management.

    In the case of some Volume Licensing programs, you may also purchase Software Assurance. This comprehensive maintenance offering can help you get the most out of your software investment. It combines the latest software with phone support, partner services, training, and IT tools. You can choose Software Assurance at the time of purchase and begin using your benefits immediately for the term of your license agreement.
